[30 Days] What’s in your bag, in great detail [12/30]

Ever since I was a young girl, I didn't like carrying heavy bags. It wasn't my thing. I just wanted to carry the bare minimum amount of items inside my bag so I won't be weighed down during the day.

The only reason that my bag became heavy was because I loved bringing a book to read.

Living in a country like the Philippines, a book is a necessity. My time is wasted very often by waiting in long lines for trains, buses, clinics, government offices and even restaurants. I feel old-school for carrying a pocketbook around but that's okay with me. I love books and I want to read more so I carried one wherever I went.

I was delighted when I found a copy of Desert God by Wilbur Smith in Biblio. I've read the first book, River God, in high school and I adored it so much. It was about a high-ranking eunuch in ancient Egypt who served after his mistress who rose to prominence as a major wife of a Pharaoh. His high post as the Queen's servant led him to participate and view the events that shaped the nation like the Hyksos invasion.

Of course, I devoured it because I loved ancient Egypt, royalty, wars, politics and schemes. I was truly enthralled by the well-researched fictional novel that brought ancient Egypt to life in front of my eyes. When I reached the end of the novel, I cried because of the pure love and passion of Taita for Lostris and she'd returned his feelings. Their bond as servant and mistress was unique and tender.

At this time, I'm still reading the book so don't expect any spoilers from me. It's just as good as the first one. Don't worry, I'm combing through bookstores in my area to find a copy of River God so I can give a proper review.

My bag was made in Marikina and it had no label. I bought it from a fellow bazaarista last year for a knockdown price too. It's a handbag in a lovely tan shade with a long strap and lots of space inside. As you know, Marikina is well known for making beautiful, well-made shoes and handbags.

It currently contains my folding black umbrella, Desert God book, my Belle du Jour 2020 planner, a tiny notebook from Nicole, my purple Cardcaptor Sakura wallet from my cousin, Denise.

I also have a Bench linen tote bag that says "Good grammar is sexy", a Bath & Body Works lotion in Mango Mai Tai, sunglasses from Aldo, silver sunglasses case, my anti-glare glasses, a red face mask, black gloves, house keys with the Riku keychain from Mai, Blesscent perfume in Sweet Pea, tiny brush, Green Cross Berry Burst alcogel, pink strawberry coin purse, house keys, Cardcaptor Sakura pins from Nicole, white headphones, rosary and devotional and my kikay kit.

Of course, it's still a lot of things but they're all essential to my daily life. I will never leave the house without my wallet, phone, house keys, my red lipstick and my face mask.

I've also got this weird habit that I like to go through my things every night before going to bed so I know I'm not going to leave anything at home.

My kikay kit or beauty bag is simple and uncomplicated.

I don't like to wear any kind of foundation, concealer or powder because my skin breaks out fairly easily. I also don't know how to do fancy contouring, smokey eyes or even my eyebrows. I know I can learn it via Youtube but I'm too lazy.

Yes, I'm that type of lady who only wears lipstick to work everyday. I'm not ashamed that I'd rather sleep 30 more minutes instead of working on my eyebrows. However, I am very, very maarte when it comes to skin care but that's another story for another day.

Anyway, when you open my kikay kit, you'll find a bunch of lipsticks, tinted moisturizer, powder compact, mini-wipes, mini-brush, lotion, alcogel, perfume, two pearl hair pins and a small earrings collection.

As a woman who aspires to become sophisticated French lady, I've got more than two lipsticks and one lover. I like having lots of options when it comes to lipsticks so I've got a pink, red, deep red, purple lip tint and a lip gloss. The color of my lips are a clear indication of my current mood for that day.

Aside from my lips, I also like to show off my mood through my earrings. Without earrings, I feel naked in public. I've grown up wearing different types of earrings so they're my thing.

My overall style is simple, elegant and comfortable so I prefer to carry less stuff in my bag and kikay kit. I'm a minimalist when it comes to my outfit, accessories and makeup. All I want to do is to get ready in the morning in less than 10 minutes. No fuss and no stress for me.

Having less stuff means less to think about and more time to do things like writing my blog entry.

  1. I started having break-outs this past two years because of make-up. I only have lipstick as my make-up now. So I can relate with you on that one. I prolly should take my lipsticks with me whenever I go out for school and what not. Nice kikay kit girl! - Yza P.
